Another beautiful day on the Island of Lesbos. I went for a 4km walk this morning before it got too sunny. The sea was glassy, the wind was minimal & the sun was shining. There were birds, cats, dogs, sheep & goats galore. Very little traffic passed me & I was completely immersed in the beauty of the morning. I might be mistaken but I think I spotted the first poppies of the season ❤️
As I walked along the sea front I looked back towards the port to see if I could spot ‘Nikaia’ but she was a little too far away to see clearly. The ocean is crystal clear here & was gently lapping on the shore as I briskly walked along, trying not to stumble on the cobbles whilst trying to take in my surroundings fully!
Last time we were in Greece Mark (my fella) got a taste for Ouzo & we took some back to Aus in his suitcase. One of the bottles had a little screw on lid with a mini Santorini church on top which I have had on the shelf at home ever since, so when I spotted this one this morning on the side of the road I couldn’t resist taking a pic! I’m guessing it’s a shrine of some kind, given the offerings inside?
As I cut back through from the back road to the beach through the old town I passed a field of sheep with their bells ringing. It’s such a peaceful sound & there is so much grass at the moment that the bells are working overtime! The locals must think I’m a bit silly stopping to take pics & talk to the girls but I don’t really care, I love the sound of the bells, it’s like something from a fairy tale. I took a video but can’t upload it 😥
Once I got back home I had a fairly lazy day. Bit of homework, bit of chat, bit of weeding, bit of reading. I am actually relaxing, which is a miracle, helped by the fact that there really isn’t anything I have to do! I know I came here with the intention of writing a book but eh! I’m happy blogging & at the moment that’s enough…sorry Marco!
Debbie & I decided to meet for an early dinner tonight so I walked the 2 minutes to the square to meet her. The breeze was picking up & the sea was a little more lumpy than this morning. She was hoping to head to the port of Sigri on the West side of the island but has had to change plans because the wind is shifting to southerly & that’s no good for the Sigri port. I hope to hire a car next week & perhaps go & find her, wherever she is anchored so we can go the the Petrified Forest together.
After a quick stop in the mini-market for Debbie to get supplies, she will be at anchor for a few days so no shopping, we went to eat fish & salad for dinner. Tonight we picked black seabream or Skathari (Σκαθάρι) which came grilled, accompanied by the obligatory Greek salad, chargrilled peppers, fried zucchini, beetroot, cabbage, spinach, skordalia & bread, washed down, in my case, with a beer.
Not as good as the John Dory the other evening but tasty non the less.
It got cold as soon as the sun went down so we said our goodbyes & headed off in opposite directions, me to my warm apartment & Debbie to Nikaia & the multitude of cats who inhabit the port! They pad around all night on the deck & last night she had to close the windows so they didn’t creep into the cabin!
The skies are clear tonight but it’s still & quiet here. I should sleep well, I have a new foam topper on the bed, a full belly & a clear mind…night xx
